Concussion Training

Minnesota State Law and MYSA Policy require that all adult participants have an approved background check before they participate in any MYSA activity. This includes all competitive and recreational coaches, managers, administrators, and referees. Merely completing a background check is not sufficient to meet the requirement to participate, the background check must be approved before any activity starts. A club found in violation of this policy shall be subject to sanctions per MYSA Rule 3.2.2.5.

Valid Concussion Training Certificate

Minnesota State Law and MYSA Policy require that all adult participants complete the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s HEADS UP Concussion Training every three years. This includes all competitive and recreational coaches, managers, administrators, and referees. The training can be found on the CDC’s website here:

https://www.cdc.gov/headsup/youthsports/training/index.html

click here to take the training, which is located in the middle of the webpage and takes

approximately 30 minutes). The certificate of completion at the end

of the training is proof the course has been taken. Parents and athletes may take the course for their own information.

Safe Sport Training

Uploading Certificates

Uploading your Concussion and SafeSport Training Certificates
Upon completion of each training, you will receive a certificate of completion that must be uploaded into your MYSA account for your club to validate. Below are the steps to upload your certificate:
1. Save each certificate as a PDF directly from the training portals.
2. Login to your MYSA account and go to your Certificates tab.
3. Click on the appropriate box to upload your file, click choose file, choose the appropriate file to upload, click on the green “Upload Image” button. The pop-up box will close and your certificate will replace the generic upload certificate picture that was previously in the box.
If your first name, last name and email address match in your MYSA account and SafeSport, then your completion certificates will be electronically updated in your MYSA account and no upload is needed.
If you are new or just completed another Concussion training, you will need to upload the Concussion certificate into your account. There is no connection between your MYSA account and the Concussion Training.

MYSA Background Check

Background Check: Adults

Member Club Officials, Coaches, Team Managers and Administrators

The Minnesota Youth Soccer Association requires that all adult participants complete an annual background check. All member-club officials, coaches, team managers and administrators who are at least 18 years old must meet the background check requirements before they can participate in any MYSA related activities.

This is free to you the club pays for this.

As of October 2016, background checks are initiated through the Affinity Sports Registration platform, though they are still processed by the McDowell Agency. This process will allow returning participants to easily renew their background checks, and will allow new participants to complete a background check and create an account in the registration platform at the same time.

Click on the link below to begin your background check, and use the reference guide if you have questions. Technical questions regarding the process or account information may be directed to the Affinity Sports helpline at 855-703-2578.
