Welcome to the Detroit Lakes Youth Soccer Association

Our Mission is to promote and foster, in our members, a basic knowledge of soccer by creating a fun, fair and safe environment. We emphasize a competitive spirit focusing on skill-development, respect, self-confidence, leadership, sportsmanship and teamwork.

Hello all:

I hope everyone is doing well in these unprecedented times.  I have been working closely with DL Soccer Club this summer.  As many of you know, the summer soccer season have been cancelled.  We are still trying to safely provide some environments for youth soccer players to train and play.

We have set aside some dates for a potential DL Soccer Camp (July 20-22).  To hold camp, we would need some of the current restrictions lifted. I will be monitoring this closely over the next month.

Due to this, I'm only checking interest level without a financial commitment.  Go to to register for free if you have a son or daughter interested in attending camp.  This will give me an idea of the amount of interest.

I will send an update as we get closer to the camp dates as to whether or not we will be able to hold it.

Thank you.

Hello everyone!

We are excited to share that we are able to offer some soccer to our DLYSA family this summer for our U10-18 players, as mentioned on our last club update we sent on May 19th and was posted on the website and Facebook page. We are excited!!

Governor Walz's Stay Safe Plan included organized youth sports, so with this information, we have officially entered Phase 2 of our Return-to-Play Plan that began June 1. We will continue to rely on Governor Walz and MYSA for direction on when to move phases and remain vigilant on creating a safe environment for youth players.

Given these orders and guidelines set in place right now, we are able to start offering and hosting modified training sessions that strictly follow Phase 2 guidelines in MYSA's Return to Play plan. These modified trainings are the only in-person activities that are allowed, and in addition to MYSA's guidelines, MDH's guidelines for youth sports must be followed.

COMPLETE AND SIGN THIS REGISTRATION AND WAIVER FORM PRIOR TO COMING TO YOUR FIRST TRAINING SESSION NEXT WEEK! We will have some copies available at the field if you do not have access to a printer.

Training Sessions will be 45 minutes-1 hour in length and the schedule for June 8th-July 2nd is as follows:

MONDAYS: U10-12 BOYS, 7:00 PM

Please plan to arrive at least 10 minutes prior to our training session, so that we can begin promptly at 7:00. We also ask that you print and sign the attached registration + waiver form linked above prior to arrival on your child's assigned practice night. You will be greeted by a DLYSA member to collect your registration form and be directed to the field area.

We strongly encourage parents to drop off  their athlete or stay in their vehicles while the trainings are in session.

***At this time, we have to cap each night at 27 players in order to be able to provide these sessions (9 players - 1 coach). If we receive greater interest and turn out for these training sessions, we will re-evaluate to try and provide as many players as possible the opportunity to participate in these sessions!

• Check child’s temperature and utilize MN Symptom Screener tool prior to attending any activities

• Ensure child’s clothing is washed after every activity

• Ensure all equipment (cleats, ball, shin guards, pinnie) are sanitized prior to any activity

• Notify Club/coach if your child becomes ill for any reasons

• Supply your child with individual sanitizer - the club will not have these available at the field.

• Adhere to all social distancing expectations

• Ensure your child has plenty of water

Attached is the graphic MYSA created that outlines the responsibilities of the club, coach, parent, and player. You can also find the links for the simple graphic and guidelines we must adhere to laid out in full here. These rules were created with players’ and coaches’ safety as the top priority, and we fully expect everyone to follow them.

Return to Play Responsibilities

We are excited we are able to provide our players the opportunity to play soccer this summer in some capacity and that they'll have a chance to see their friends and teammates on the pitch!

DLYSA Board of Directors

DLYSA Family-

The Board of Directors met on Friday, May 15th to weigh our options and make final decisions regarding the Summer Competitive Travel Soccer and The Mighty Strikers Summer Recreation Soccer Program.

With all the unknowns we still face beyond June 1st, the Board of Directors had to make some very difficult decisions for the program and took the following actions:

(1) The normal U10-U18 Summer Competitive Travel Soccer is canceled. Refunds will begin in the coming weeks and will be completed by July 1, 2020. You will have the option to do a full refund for both your registration + banquet ticket OR you can:

  •  forego the refund for your banquet ticket
  •  forego the refund for both your registration and banquet ticket and give a donation to the club. You will need to let us know if you'd like to make a donation to the club by June 15, 2020. Please send an email to:

(2) The Mighty Strikers Summer Recreation Soccer is canceled. Refunds will begin in the coming weeks and will be completed by July 1, 2020.

(3) In lieu of the competitive schedule being canceled, the President and Director of Coaching met with the coaches and team managers to discuss alternative soccer programming for our members that can be conducted safely and meet public health guidelines. We will also be consulting with Coach Dan Weiler (college coach and director of camps) to provide alternate soccer training and activities during the summer months. The Board intends to have a schedule available for safe alternative programming by the first week of June. At this time, we need your help to program these alternative activities. Please take a few minutes to complete the survey by clicking the link below. Your input is essential to help us develop these alternative opportunities.

We know this news will cause disappointment. Please know these decisions were made with much thought and care. We are all sad to be missing out on a season of further development and team building for our youth. We are searching for opportunities to continue to forge friendships on the pitch.

If you have any questions please direct those to Justin Wegleitner-President at coachjpw09@hotmail.comWe look forward to the day when our kids can enjoy one another, the competition, and the fun that comes with an expanded soccer season.

The Five v 6

U14GW   Team sent 5 players to Bemidji to compete in the 6 v 6 tournament. With no subs, hot weather and playing short the 5 were able to upset there  fully loaded rivals.

Despite the advantage there competitors had these 5 players stuck it out and never complained as they rolled through the competition to end up the eventual victors.
