The Detroit Lakes Rec program began with 12-15 players and over the years the numbers stabilized at 30-40 players.
In 2004 the format was changed with the view to "Just Let the Kids Play."
The first year the numbers increased to 90 and in 2007 it grew to 150 players.
During this period we have been working on new fields for this important group of players. We are happy to let you know that the fields were leveled, a sprinkler system was installed and seeding was started in the fall of 2007. New goal posts have been purchased for the Big Beans.
In 2009 we added a concessions and bathrooms building.
This year the coach for the program will be Jennifer Frank she was a DL H/S team captain, she is joined by Joel Juni, the boys H/S assistant coach.
We hope you are as excited as we are to see this group of players on the Rotary Soccer Complex. where they will be able to learn their skills on level, soft grass.
Tiny Tikes (3 to 4 years old) Mid Mites (5-6) and Big Beans (7 to 8 years old) are development programs to give each player plenty of touches on the ball (for ages 9 and older please contact the Detroit Lakes Youth Soccer Association to find playing opportunities).
The first week we will spend time training the players and parents.
Each team will require parent volunteers to coach and assist teams. Teams are run by parent involvement. A Parent In-service is scheduled for Monday June 3, 2019, 6-7 pm, at the MSCTC Conference Room to instruct parents on the rules of soccer; hand-out schedules, picture packages and t-shirts; and address issues parents may have pertaining to soccer, parking, safety and the use of the Rotary Soccer Park located just north of MSCTC.
